Street parking up Burnside and side streets. Not the easiest buts it's there.
I know they have a variety of alternative milks. Not sure if they have the unsweetened variety.
WiFi, yes...plugs depend on who is sitting where.
Super nice staff, very accommodating. I go here every weekend for one of their great breakfast sandwiches and coffee.
I've been going to Grendel's for 6 years. They have been the most consistent thing in my life other than some friends, my immediate family, and the Internet (which is my home.)Grendel's feels like home, too. And an office (I get my best work done here. They even have a printer.)I've never patronized a place for 6 years straight - and they REMEBERED ME AFTER A YEAR when I got pushed out of Portland and managed to come back.Very little employee turnover so you always have the same folks to come back to. The people are amazing, compassionate people who know their customers and provide excellent service to everyone.Excellent selection. All of their coffee is great but my favorite is the honey lavender latte - they make the syrup in house. A lot of vegan options (something like 90% of their baked goods are vegan) and great sandwiches & soup.I highly, highly recommend them.
A great spot for studying and hanging out. Their food is definitely a standout compared to many other coffee shops. Build your own deli sandwiches, soup, breakfast sandwiches, and pastries. Great friendly staff and a warm welcoming environment. It's also a plus that there is free street parking nearby and a couple of cool vintage shops and boutiques. Great spot!
I love all their soups.. everyone is friendly and accommodating;even with the hot sauce😀😀😀
Hood hot chocolate. Place gets really busy so it can be hard to find a seat. Bit great to get coffee and go.
This coffee shop is fantastic! The breakfast sandwiches are delicious and customizable, made to order with fresh ingredients. There are rotating coffee specials and fresh baked goods.
I've been frequenting Grendel's since I started working in the area 6 years ago. They are a quirky little coffee shop with excellent soups made in-house. Their breakfast sandwiches are also delicious. And the coffee is excellent. I've had nearly everything on the menu and the baristas know how to pull quality shots. The owner Eric is friendly and will chat you up on occasion, and everyone who works there has become a friend over time. Definitely recommend as a meeting place, a place to grab a quick bite, or a place to work on your laptop or read.
Love this place! Prompt friendly staff, a warm welcoming Portland feel and great quality coffee and tea! I'll keep coming back for sure.
White espresso is my happy drink!
Great coffee, and the breakfast sandwiches are delicious. If you liked sweet coffee, try the Beowulf Forest Mocha ♡
Delicious coffee They use pacific barista soy
Espresso is really good. The place is not very pleasant. Haven’t tried the food.
Very friend staff and their breakfast sandwich was only $3.75!
Great bagel and lox, OK coffee.
Love this place. We visit a every time we visit Portland.
Fun place to have coffee and a light meal.
must try the house coffee. it's called Johnny tsunami. it's phenomenal
Very pleasant coffee shop with friendly employees, unique and tasty specialty coffee drinks, and good breakfast. I had yogurt, which was unsweetened, and the sausage and egg sandwich. The sandwich felt homemade, not greasy and microwaved. Will definitely return next time I'm in town.
Cozy cafe. Open early, good for breakfast. To go option is also possible.
Just stopped in on my break. The owner was super nice and makes a fantastic iced oat milk mocha. I’m coming back again for sure! 👍
This is coffee! The people are great humans too! The coffee is just stellar, always. Grendels and Happy Rock are the only coffee places to go. Best prices and flavor by far.
I’ve been several times over the last few years while on walks around the neighbourhood. Always top quality coffee and service. It’s a little slice of old Portland which makes it more appealing.
I stayed in the hotel across the street for a few nights and I went for breakfast every morning. By the end they memorized my order! A cozy place too
Stopped by here with my sister on a whim and tried the lavender mochas. My first impression was that it was so comfortable in there. The lady at the counter was really friendly and kind. I would absolutely come back if I'm ever in the area again. The lavender mochas tasted amazing. Not bitter and not too sweet. The lavender to chocolate ratio is spot on. Five stars!!
A great little neighbourhood spot with awesome simple eats and solid drink options. This place is quirky and diverse. Everything from boiled eggs to handmade sandwiches how your mom would make them and sweet tea to fancy latte's. This is a funny little space with lots of seating for the size. Great window spots with infinite people watching on Burnside. Parking into the south neighbourhood is still free but hard to find. They take the phone pay options and old-school cash of course.I've eaten sweet treats here, they have a variety of locally baked goods, to go grain bars or bagels and/or sandwiches made to order with a full sheet of yes/no boxes to build your own. It's pretty magical really. The baristas here are personable and will quickly become your favourite if you're a regular. Come for a quick coffee or tea or stay for a long study or relaxation sess to watch the world and read a book.
Very good coffee, friendly staff. It’s in an old building that has a lot of character. Highly recommended
Great coffee, decent breakfast. Very nice staff. Small shop, so don't back in getting a place to sit
Small and cozy, the staff was friendly and were ready to serve up a delicious cup of goodness for me. Ordered the Beuwulf Mocha and it was like drinking the most heart warming and delicious desert. My friend had the Grendel, which was just as good. If you find yourself walking down Burnside, stop in, they have a bunch of other delightful looking treats that we didn't get to try.
Good Prices, Quick Service, Knowledgeable Staff about Coffee
Great soups and sandwiches! Coffee is kinda watery and not very strong.
Love there breakfast sandwiches very tasty and real ingredients not a prossessed powdered egg and fake meat concoction. The staff are friendly and courtious even when swamped with Customers. They take time to get to know you and remember you. Nice to be greeted by your name they remembered from the multitudes of others they serve as well. Coffee is of good quality for those specialty drinks. Nice atmosphere for those taking a break and want to read, or the Wi-Fi to check your mail or surf. Long term Customer they made of me.
Great place. Laid back with some funk. Made to order delivery sandwiches and soup are the bomb.
Ahhhh, the subtle flames of Golden Fire tea.
Loved the friendliness of the staff and the coffee was amazing. My daughter had a hot cocoa and they made sure it was just the right temperature for her to drink and the atmosphere is so comfortable. We hung out for well over 45 minutes there!
Great place and didnt have to explain how to make an iced matcha tea.
The nicest people ever, low prices. Grendel's is a small local business that really makes you feel welcomed and valued ❤️
A real coffee house with a lot of charm. Perfect place to start your day. Something you just cant find at the big franchise. Everytime I am in Portland i stop by. Coffee is strong and staff is extremly friendly. A lot of outlets so if you want to charge your laptop or phone this is a good coffee shop to do so.
This is my favorite coffee shop in Portland. The coffee is superb and prices completely reasonable. The baristas are always friendly and helpful. This place is perfect if you are looking for one of the few not-pretentious, yet wonderful coffee shops around town.
I always find Grendel's when in Portland. Exactly my idea of a neighborhood coffee shop. Great mixed crowd, good food and great coffee.
For a good coffee and sandwich
Great coffee art. Nice ambiance. Good variety of bagel and breakfast sandwiches.
I have been a customer for going on about 4 or 5 years now and I will FOREVER be 100% Grateful for everything they do, and for the yummy coffee they always make. So If you like good coffee and good food and super friendly, and pretty workers I strongly recommend it.
Delicious, quick and friendly service
Staff is always friendly. They even remember my order! Coffee is great, and if for some reason you do not like what you ordered they will make you something else without any attitude! Oh. The bagels and cream cheese are a daily thing for me. They're awesome! Menu prices are reasonable as well.
This is a good place to go for lunch or a strong cup of iced coffee.
Probably the best matcha latte I've had. And they've got tables and chairs outside where I can sit with my pup and work.Obviously Burnside is a very busy street, so the traffic is a little noisy if you're outside. But any place I can bring my dog, even if it is just outside, is a great place in my book.
A very cozy coffee place right close to a few hotels/motels on Burnside. The coffee (simple brew that I always get) was tasty. The best part was the toasted bagel, they really put some attention and effort in making that the best toasted bagel with cream cheese that I've had in a while. Thank you!
